Pharmidex and FAN establish a co-marketing agreement
London, March 29, 2006. Pharmidex Pharmaceutical Services Ltd (Pharmidex), a UK based company, and the German company FAN GmbH
(FAN) are pleased to announce the establishment of a Co-Marketing Agreement.
Both companies focus on providing solutions to facilitate the discovery and development of new medicines for disorders of the central nervous system (CNS). Under the collaborative agreement, both Pharmidex and FAN will promote each other’s existing offerings.
Formed by Drs Alan Palmer and Mohammad Alavijeh, Pharmidex is a solution provider in brain medicines research with leading-edge expertise in the prediction and assessment of the ability of compounds to cross the barrier between blood and brain. FAN is a preclinical and clinical contract research organization, which focuses on central nervous system drug target discovery, especially in the fields of stroke, Alzheimer's disease and brain stem cells.
FAN’s co-founder and Director Professor Klaus Reymann said “our Co-Marketing Agreement will deliver substantial benefits to both FAN and Pharmidex. It allows our two companies to co-promote our respective offerings and thus provide a more comprehensive service to our customers.”
The initial contact between Pharmidex and FAN was brokered by DTI International Technology Promoter, Philip Oliver, as a result of his knowledge of the complementary technologies offered by both companies
Pharmidex’s Chief Executive Officer Dr Alan Palmer said: “We are delighted to collaborate with FAN in this way. We have very complementary offerings that and look forward to a fruitful relationship. By working together, we will effectively provide solutions to drug discovery companies worldwide in order to improve the productivity of their CNS drug discovery programmes.”
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. and LONDON, UK, March 28, 2006 – Genzyme Pharmaceuticals, a business unit of Genzyme Corp., and Pharmidex Pharmaceutical Services of London today announced a new collaboration designed to help improve the development of drug candidates that target the central nervous system (CNS).
Combining drug delivery technology from Genzyme Pharmaceuticals and the specialized CNS expertise of Pharmidex, the companies today launched CERENSESM, a product development platform designed to substantially improve the development success of CNS medicines that normally exhibit poor permeation of the barrier that exists between the blood and brain (the BBB), and open potential new avenues for CNS medicines research. The collaboration was announced at the CNS Diseases Congress today in Boston.
"We are delighted to work with Pharmidex to create a platform that we believe will have a meaningful impact on the creation of new drugs for central nervous system disorders,” said Dan Hayden, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Genzyme Pharmaceuticals. “CERENSESM has real potential to reduce the cost, time to market, and risk inherent in developing products for the central nervous system.”
”The World Health Organization has indicated that CNS disorders are the major medical challenge of the 21st Century” said Alan Palmer, Chief Executive of Pharmidex, “yet treatments for most CNS disorders are either inadequate or absent. CNS is the most challenging frontier for drug discovery largely because of the complexity of the brain and the existence of the BBB. CERENSESM will greatly help the development and provision of new, safe and effective medicines for CNS disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.”
CERENSESM incorporates Genzyme Pharmaceuticals’ LipoBridge™ technology for delivery of drug candidates into the central nervous system with customized in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo assessments of BBB permeation from Pharmidex, which provide measurements of the ingress, distribution and pharmacokinetics of lead compounds in the brain. CERENSESM can take a non-or poorly-penetrant lead compound and establish a comprehensive set of data to demonstrate that it gets into the brain where it is able to interact with its molecular target and produce the desired therapeutic benefit.
Pharmidex contributes to a major CNS Diseases Congress in USA
Pharmidex is presenting and exhibiting at CNS Diseases Congress 2006
from 27-28 March which is taking place in Boston-USA. This CNS Diseases
Congress will feature presentations from industrial and academic
researchers from around the world who are making important contributions
to the current body of knowledge in the CNS Disorders area. Along with
the latest approaches and technologies to the discovery and development
of CNS drugs, this congress will highlight the latest research in the
areas of psychiatric disorders, CNS and Alzheimer’s dementia. “Pharmidex
focuses on the prediction and assessment of the ability of potential new
medicines to cross the permeability barrier between blood and brain –
the blood-brain barrier (BBB)” said Dr Alan Palmer,. Pharmidex’s Chief
Executive Officer, “so we add value to all CNS drug discovery programs”
He will elaborate further during his presentation, which is entitled:
‘Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB) solutions to Facilitate and Accelerate CNS
Medicines Research’.

Strand And Pharmidex To Collaborate To Produce A New In Silico Technology For CNS Drug Discovery
London, England [Feb 20, 2006] Pharmidex, a world leader in assessing
the ability of compounds to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB),
announced today that it has entered into a collaboration with Strand
Life Sciences, a premier in silico technologies innovation company,
Both companies focus on providing solutions to facilitate the discovery
and development of new medicines. Under the collaborative agreement both
Strand and Pharmidex will promote each others existing offerings and
will jointly develop new software to predict the ability of compounds to
cross the BBB. This effectively combines the in silico expertise of
Strand with the BBB-focused offering of Pharmidex, which includes in
vitro, ex vivo and in vivo (NeuroPK®) methodologies.
“CNS is a challenging area and this collaboration gives us access to
data that can be used to build good predictive models” said Kas
Subramanian, CSO of Strand Life Sciences. “We will be building
predictive models for BBB based on in vitro and ex vivo data generated
by Pharmidex. This will also help expand our pre-built ADME model suite
in our product admetis.”
Current software models to predict BBB penetration are not informed by a
consistent set of experimental data, which means that their use is
limited. “By providing a consistent set of data, we will work with
Strand to produce the world’s best software package to predict the
ability of compounds to cross the BBB “said Mohammad Alavijeh, CSO of
Pharmidex. “The new software will have immense value to all companies
engaged in CNS drug discovery and also helps non-CNS drug discovery,
where knowledge that compounds do not cross the BBB reduces the
likelihood that lead compounds will be associated with CNS
side-effects”.
Neurosolutions And Pharmidex Enter Co-Marketing Agreement
NeuroDiscovery Ltd (NeuroDiscovery) (ASX Code:NDL), a neurology-focused
biotechnology research and development company and its 100 per cent
subsidiary, NeuroSolutions Ltd (NeuroSolutions), are pleased to announce
the establishment of a Co-Marketing Agreement with Pharmidex
Pharmaceutical Services Ltd (Pharmidex).
Under the Agreement, NeuroSolutions and Pharmidex will co-operate with
each other to identify, develop and exploit new business opportunities
for each other and provide introductions and referrals in relation to
the services provided by both parties.
The Agreement will be mutually beneficial for both companies as it makes
financial and commercial sense for NeuroSolutions and Pharmidex to
co–promote each other’s companies.
In addition, the Agreement is expected to assist in raising the profile
of both companies in the biopharmaceutical sector, potentially leading
to additional clients and collaborations.
Pharmidex is a solution provider in brain medicines research with
leading-edge expertise in the prediction and assessment of the ability
of compounds to cross the barrier between blood and brain.
NeuroSolutions’ Chief Executive Officer Dr Alistair Dixon said the
Co-Marketing Agreement would deliver substantial benefits to both
parties. “There is an enormous amount of synergy between our
organisations, and this is a great opportunity to increase the profile
and client base of both of our organisations, and deliver world class
neurological drug discovery solutions.”
Pharmidex’s Chief Executive Officer Dr Alan Palmer said: “We are
delighted to collaborate with NeuroSolutions in this way. It takes
longer to get a drug targeting a brain disorder to market than any other
type of medicine and the chances of getting to market are substantially
lower than for other indications. It is therefore essential that
pharmaceutical companies utilise the innovation that exists in small to
medium sized biotechnology companies as part of the solution to improve
the productivity of drug discovery. Both NeuroSolutions and Pharmidex
believe we can assist in this process and plan to start cross promotion
of our capabilities.”
