The blood-brain barrier is the tight seal of cells that lines the
blood vessels in the brain. It thus forms a permeability barrier
between blood and brain and so confers protection against compounds
that may cause damage to brain cells. It also forms serious challenge
to CNS drug discovery since a compound targeting a CNS disorder needs
to move through the BBB in order to reach its site of action and
interact with its target protein to evoke the desired therapeutic
effect.
The
BBB presents a major challenge to CNS drug discovery
The Pharmidex offering can assess BBB penetrability of potential CNS
drugs at the following levels:
1. In silico (Clarity™)
2. In vitro (Penetrability™)
3. In vivo (NeuroPK®)
